So where do I start as a manager?

I asked myself this question as I began managing my first team over 10 years ago. I wanted to be a good leader, have a positive impact on my team, help my employees be successful and reach their goals, lead well-designed meetings, earn their respect, produce great work together, and the list went on. But how do I do it? Like so many others, I was promoted to a manager because I had excelled in my personal role. The next step was now a role that included managing a team. The only issue - I could manage projects, but no one trained me on how I should manage people.

While I had various leadership experiences, managing a professional team was different. I was left to figure out how to manage by trial-and-error. Thankfully, I have worked with great people and have been able to build engaged, meaningful, and thriving teams. But that took years of learning, seeking out best practices, practicing, and refining. As I work with new managers, I continue to see many that are starting out just like I did. They have been left to figure out people management on their own. This is concerning when considering the vital role the manager plays in the success of their team members both personally and professionally.

But you can have a different experience! I developed the Manager Essentials Workshop to help new managers create a solid foundation from the start. This workshop not only helps you learn the key elements to leading your team, but it explores the unique talents, strengths, and experiences you bring to the role to design your personalized managing style. Leading a team will always bring new learning, but this workshop provides you with action steps that you can immediately implement with your team. This workshop also guides you in how to tailor your approach best to meet the needs of each of your team members.
